HeartOfThePen is a songwriter who writes and arranges songs, works with artists to put their voices behind his songwriting and songs, then he pushes and promotes the songs to promote him the songwriter. His main genre is R&B.

Born Vernard Lebron Baker on December 5th 1981 in Cleveland Ohio, his parents would move him and his younger siblings to Chattanooga Tennessee a few years later. HeartOfThePen loved music growing up as his dad would have old vinyl records of artist like Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Teddy Pendergrass, The O’Jays, Sly and The Family Stone, and The Isley Brothers to name a few. HeartOfThePen is a huge fan of R&B and grew up fans of artists like Joe, Jaheim, Tank, R.Kelly, Avant, SWV, Escape, Monica, Dru Hill, Jagged Edge, Mariah Carey, to name some.

HeartOfThePen started out writing poetry when he was middle school and won and placed in a few poetry contests. He was inspired to write his first song based on hearing a song by Joe and Case entitled “Faded Pictures”. From there he would write songs regularly throughout his years in high school. Between his first and second year of college he begins seriously pursuing a songwriting career.

After years of working with other artists and people in the industry, HeartOfThePen formed his own songwriting production company in 2018 call HitsSongwritingProduction. The goal of forming the company as a songwriter/ music producer was to be able to control his own destiny and to write and put out the kind of music that he wants to without having to follow so call industry standards. His biggest goal is to be a creative advocate for R&B music as he sees today’s genre as a dying art. He also occasionally works on spoken word music which features poetry and song. His love of poetry has always remain with him as a writer and as an occasional artist. 

Heart understands the necessity for building a diverse catalog of songs, but he feels aside from that one of the most important things to build in this industry is rapport and maintain a noble character. It is that attitude that has taken HeartOfThePen from a youngster nodding away to the songs of his favorite artists, to penning what will someday be your favorite song.
